Extremely interesting and multifaceted show on this world famous sparkling wine and its influence on the Arts at the Musée des Beaux-arts in Reims, 8 Rue Chanzy, near and next to the 800 year old Cathedral. From Mid-December to 26 Mai 2013 (on Tuesdays closed).

« Cette exposition dédiée aux rapports entre le champagne et les arts aura une large ampleur chronologique :
de l’apparition du vin pétillant de Champagne, à la fin du XVIIe siècle jusqu’au XXe siècle.
Elle portera principalement sur la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle et sur la première moitié du XXe siècle, avec toutefois quelques clins d’œil vers l’art contemporain et le design.
Pour mettre en lumière la dimension mythique du champagne – un fait culturel exceptionnel – cette exposition fera appel à des œuvres de techniques diverses telles que peintures, dessins, gravures, affiches, sculptures, maquettes et dessins d’architecture, objets d’arts décoratifs (verrerie, orfèvrerie, éventails, papiers peints). Elle évoquera également la musique et le cinéma. »
Cette exposition est reconnue d’intérêt national par le ministère de la Culture. Elle bénéficie à ce titre d’un soutien financier exceptionnel de l’État.

Exhibits shown from the appearance of the sparkling wine Champagne at the end of the seventeenth century to the twentieth century.
The focus is on the second half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, with some allusions to contemporary art and design.
To highlight the mythical dimension of champagne – a cultural exception – this exhibition will appeal to a variety of works such as paintings, drawings, prints, posters, sculptures, models and architectural drawings, decorative arts (glassware, silverware, fans, wallpapers).
